A vegan Christmas
Why have a vegan Christmas?
Christmas is meant to be the time of goodwill towards mankind. Why not make this Christmas one of goodwill to animal kind and our planet as well. There are so many amazing recipes around filled with delicious vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains. Done right, even a die hard meat eater will enjoy a lighter healthier feast.
Benefits of a vegan feast
- It is kinder to the planet. Animal agriculture is a leading cause of climate warming and at Christmas time we usually totally over indulge in turkey, ham and seafood
- Of course it is kinder to the animals who are unnecessarily slaughter so we can shamelessly stuff our faces on their flesh. In the UK 25 million ducks, turkeys and geese where killed in 2011 for Christmas. In the US 22 million turkeys dies for our Christmas plates. Many of the animals and been born and breed in appalling conditions.
- It is better for your health. A planet based dies has no cholesterol, very little unhealthy fat and is full of nutrition and fibre.
Why do we eat so much meat during our holidays? Because it’s tradition. I don’t know about you but meaningless tradition for traditions sake drives me nuts. Go on lash out try something different for once. Go ahead shock your family, invite them over and give them a vegan feast. It will open up a conversation about just how our diet of animal flesh is causing no end of problems to our health and our planet.
